Philip II of Macedon (382–336 BC; in Greek, Φίλιππος = φίλος (friend) + ίππος (horse), transliterated Philippos) was king from 359 BC until his assassination. He was father of Alexander III, Philip III and possibly Ptolemy I Soter, the founder of the Ptolemaic dynasty.
